About the role

We’re looking for a DevOps Lead to take ownership of our AWS environment and lead a small team of DevOps engineers.
This is an opportunity for an experienced cloud professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with people leadership. You’ll have ownership of our AWS strategy, including cost optimisation, reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
You’ll also be the line manager for 3 to 4 Junior/Intermediate DevOps engineers, helping them build their skills, confidence and careers through mentoring, coaching and clear technical guidance.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Own and develop our AWS cloud strategy, ensuring our environment is scalable, reliable, secure and cost-effective.
• Lead AWS cost optimisation, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and manage cloud spend.
• Oversee ongoing cloud maintenance, upgrades, monitoring and operational health.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and production issues.
• Develop and improve our CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Establish and maintain cloud and infrastructure standards, processes and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership across the DevOps function.
• Line manage and mentor 3 to 4 Junior/Intermediate DevOps engineers.
• Support the team's technical and professional development through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
• Work closely with software engineering and other technical teams to improve reliability, deployment processes and engineering efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and continuously improve how we work.

What we’re looking for☁️ AWS and technical skillsYou’ll need strong, hands-on AWS experience and the confidence to take ownership of an AWS environment.
Experience with the following would be valuable:

• Core AWS services
• Cloud architecture and infrastructure management
• AWS cost management and optimisation
• CI/CD and deployment automation
• Jenkins
• GitHub and/or GitLab
• Infrastructure troubleshooting and production support
• Monitoring, reliability and ongoing cloud maintenance
• DevOps principles and practices

Java experience would be a bonus, but is not essential.
👥 Leadership and people skillsThis role has an important people leadership component, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys helping others develop.
You’ll ideally have:

• People leadership or line management experience, ideally within a DevOps, Cloud or Engineering environment.
• Experience mentoring and developing Junior/Intermediate engineers.
• A supportive and collaborative leadership style.
• The ability to provide clear technical direction while encouraging your team to contribute ideas and solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A genuine interest in helping people grow their technical skills and careers.
• The confidence to make decisions, take ownership and work through complex problems collaboratively.

What success looks likeYou’ll become a key person responsible for the health, direction and efficiency of our AWS environment.
You’ll help ensure our infrastructure is reliable and well maintained, our AWS spend is managed effectively, our deployment processes continue to improve, and our DevOps team has the support and technical guidance it needs to grow.
