About the role

Why You Would Like It:

  • Relocate to Dunedin for this opportunity
  • Own & shape a modern Microsoft Fabric platform
  • High-impact role with genuine technical ownership
  • Work across Power BI, Python, SQL & data governance
  • Partner with the business to improve decision-making
  • Supported by external specialists while leading internally

The Opportunity:

Reaching out to Christchurch based candidates who would like to relocate to Dunedin for this Data Engineering role.

This is a great role for an experienced Data Engineer who wants to take real ownership of a modern data platform.

You’ll lead the ongoing implementation, management and improvement of a Microsoft Fabric environment, working closely with business stakeholders. The focus is on migrating reporting into Fabric, improving data quality, and building scalable foundations that help the organisation make better decisions.

This is not a narrow support role. You’ll be the dedicated data engineering specialist, shaping technical direction, setting good practices, and turning business needs into practical data solutions.

Company Profile:

Our client is a significant New Zealand organisation with a complex operational environment and a growing focus on data-led decision-making.

You’ll join a small, collaborative technology team that values ownership, clear communication and practical delivery. The environment will suit someone who is comfortable operating independently while working closely with external partners and internal stakeholders.

The Role:
  • Manage and evolve the Microsoft Fabric environment, including medallion architecture and metadata-driven frameworks
  • Build and maintain ingestion pipelines using Python, SQL and CI/CD practices
  • Develop Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX measures and deployment pipelines
  • Support database mirroring and reporting migration activity
  • Work with business users to understand reporting needs and translate them into scalable models
  • Coordinate with MSPs and consultants to prioritise and sequence delivery
  • Champion data governance, quality, security and self-service reporting capability
  • Maintain strong documentation and support continuous improvement across the platform

Your Fit:
  • 5+ years’ experience across Microsoft data warehousing, reporting or data engineering
  • Strong capability with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Python and SQL
  • Confident with semantic models, DAX, row-level security, workspace and app management
  • Experience with medallion architecture, metadata-driven frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable engaging with non-technical stakeholders and translating business requirements
  • Good understanding of data governance and security in Microsoft 365/Azure environments
  • Microsoft certifications across Fabric, Power BI or Azure Data Engineering would be useful

If this sounds like the kind of ownership you’re looking for, apply now or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
