Complex networks. Real technical ownership. Projects that make a difference.
An opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working across multiple networking technologies and taking ownership of infrastructure that supports essential services.
Our client is looking for a hands-on Senior Network Engineer to join an established technical team, combining operational network engineering with infrastructure projects across a growing, geographically distributed environment.
The Company
Our client is a well-established New Zealand organisation operating across multiple locations, with an extensive technology environment supporting its people, facilities and essential operational services.
Their ongoing investment in new developments, infrastructure improvements and technology creates an interesting mix of network engineering, project delivery and operational responsibilities.
You'll join a collaborative technical team where practical expertise, sound judgement and the ability to get things done are valued.
The Role & Requirements
Working alongside a Network Architect and two other Network Engineers, you'll take responsibility for maintaining, improving and supporting a diverse networking environment.
The role offers a genuine balance between hands-on operational engineering and infrastructure project delivery.
You'll be involved in:
- Troubleshooting complex network issues, restoring services and conducting root cause analysis.
- Configuring, maintaining and supporting enterprise routing, switching and wireless infrastructure.
- Working across Juniper, Aruba, UniFi, MikroTik and Fortinet technologies.
- Managing VLANs, routing protocols, network segmentation, VPNs and connectivity.
- Supporting network security, firewall configurations, firmware upgrades and network monitoring.
- Reviewing network designs and contributing to new developments and infrastructure upgrades.
- Working with architects, vendors and development teams to deliver network projects.
- Supporting connectivity for CCTV, access control, emergency response and building management systems.
- Planning network capacity, maintaining technical documentation and supporting infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with Network Engineers who have developed strong practical skills through hands-on experience.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- At least five years of solid network engineering experience.
- Strong routing and switching expertise, including BGP, VLANs, Layer 2, Layer 3 and dynamic routing.
- Practical experience with enterprise wireless, WAN connectivity and multi-site networking.
- Strong command-line skills and the confidence to troubleshoot complex networking problems.
- Experience with two or more relevant networking platforms, ideally including Juniper, Aruba, MikroTik or UniFi.
- A sound understanding of network security, firewalls, VPNs, segmentation and Quality of Service.
- Experience contributing to network infrastructure projects, upgrades and technical improvements.
- The ability to diagnose problems, identify root causes and explain technical solutions clearly.
Relevant industry certifications are welcome, although practical experience and technical capability are more important.
Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working with others, communicates clearly and is comfortable taking responsibility for technical outcomes.
What's On Offer
- A senior engineering position with genuine technical ownership.
- A diverse networking environment incorporating multiple technologies.
- A mix of operational engineering and infrastructure project delivery.
- Opportunities to contribute to new developments and network architecture improvements.
- An established technical team with access to experienced architectural support.
- The opportunity to mentor other engineers and influence technical practices.
- Competitive remuneration, with additional allowances for after-hours support.
Next Steps
