About the role

Potentia is partnering with BRANZ to find a Technical Business Analyst who enjoys getting beneath the surface of a problem, working across diverse teams and turning ideas into solutions that genuinely make things better.

What makes this opportunity different?

  • Work across BRANZ’s research, investment, testing, and corporate functions.
  • Get involved early, when new ideas, opportunities and business needs first emerge.
  • Enjoy Southern Cross health insurance, free onsite parking, EV charging and an onsite café.

Building with science
BRANZ delivers practical, independent building research, testing, assurance and guidance that supports safer, healthier and better-performing buildings across Aotearoa New Zealand. Its work is focused on some of the biggest challenges facing the building sector, including affordability, quality, resilience and sustainability. Behind that work is a fascinating and varied organisation made up of scientists, engineers, researchers, investment specialists, testing teams and corporate professionals. That variety is what makes this role so interesting.

About the role
This is not a Business Analyst position focused on one programme, system or business unit. You will sit across BRANZ, working with teams throughout the organisation on a broad range of digital, data, system and process improvement initiatives.
When a team has a new idea, wants to improve how something works or needs to explore a new system, service or digital tool, you will help them work through it. You will clarify the problem, understand the current environment, bring the right people together and translate business needs into practical, well-defined solutions.

Working within the Digital & Technology team, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technology delivery, helping ensure solutions are fit for purpose, integrated, supportable and aligned with BRANZ’s priorities.

Your work will include:
  • leading discovery and investigating operational issues, system constraints, data challenges and new opportunities
  • mapping end-to-end processes, service journeys, user experiences and system workflows
  • defining business, functional, non-functional, data and reporting requirements
  • assessing solution options across value, feasibility, risk, supportability and strategic alignment
  • contributing to business cases and investment decisions
  • supporting solution design, testing, implementation and business adoption
  • identifying opportunities to simplify, automate or digitise business activities
  • exploring better use of existing platforms and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

The role follows initiatives through from early discovery and requirements definition to testing, implementation and transition into support, giving you the opportunity to see the impact of your work.

About you
You will be an experienced Business Analyst with enough technical depth to work confidently with Digital & Technology teams, while remaining approachable and effective with business stakeholders.

You are likely to bring:
  • strong discovery, process mapping and requirements management experience
  • the ability to translate between business language and technical concepts
  • experience working with data flows, integrations, APIs, reporting and system design concepts
  • an understanding of security, privacy and supportability considerations
  • experience supporting testing, UAT, implementation and release readiness
  • clear written communication and the ability to present options and recommendations to different audiences
  • a practical, curious and collaborative approach.

Experience with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, workflow tools, reporting platforms, business applications or low-code solutions would be valuable.

Why BRANZ?
You will join an organisation doing meaningful, evidence-based work for Aotearoa New Zealand, while taking on a role with genuine variety and visibility across the business.

Alongside the opportunity to work on an unusually broad range of projects and topics, BRANZ offers:
  • Southern Cross health insurance
  • free onsite parking
  • EV charging onsite
  • an onsite café
  • a collaborative campus environment in Porirua
  • the opportunity to contribute across research, investment, testing, assurance and organisational operations.

For someone who enjoys variety, likes learning how different parts of an organisation work and wants to help teams turn good ideas into practical outcomes, this is an excellent opportunity.
