This role supports Phase 2 of a significant mainframe modernisation programme. You’ll be working across SAS within the mainframe environment, helping run, monitor, troubleshoot and support migration-related activity across batch processing, job scheduling and data connectivity.
This is not a modern mainframe development role. The focus is on SAS running in a mainframe environment, with hands-on operational and diagnostic capability across JCL, ISPF, spooling, SASLOG, SASLIST and related tooling.
What you’ll be doing:
- Running SAS in batch mode and troubleshooting through SASLOG and SASLIST
- Reading and understanding SAS programs stored in mainframe PDS libraries
- Running, monitoring and diagnosing mainframe jobs, including SAS jobs
- Working with file formats such as VSAM, CSV and EBCDIC
- Supporting DB2 connectivity within the mainframe environment
- Using job scheduling tools such as CA7, Control-M, OPC or similar
- Working with technical teams to identify, resolve and document processing issues
- Strong working knowledge of SAS within a mainframe environment
- Hands-on experience with ISPF, JCL, spooling and DB2 connectivity
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve batch processing errors
- Experience handling mainframe file formats including VSAM, CSV and EBCDIC
- Familiarity with mainframe job schedulers such as CA7, Control-M, OPC or similar
- Ability to work confidently across legacy environments and migration activity
- Banking or financial services experience would be advantageous
- COBOL exposure would be a useful bonus
