About the role

Potentia is proud to be partnering with Aurora Energy.

Aurora Energy is one of the largest electricity networks in Aotearoa New Zealand, delivering power across some of the most diverse terrain in the South Island. The growth of electrification is changing how energy is used - from electric vehicles to solar generation. Aurora Energy continues to grow, with a strong and highly regarded culture that sets it apart.

The opportunity

This is a chance to take a leading role in Aurora’s geospatial environment and help shape how spatial data, tools, and services support critical operational and planning decisions.

You’ll work closely with ICT and business teams to ensure geospatial systems are reliable, well-managed, and aligned to the wider technology roadmap. You’ll be the trusted GIS specialist across the organisation, translating technical capability into practical business outcomes

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the development, support, and continuous improvement of geospatial platforms and services, while partnering with stakeholders to understand their needs and identify better ways to use spatial technology.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing, maintaining, and optimising geospatial systems and infrastructure
  • Publishing and supporting map, feature, and WMS services
  • Providing support and ensuring issues are resolved effectively
  • Improving the quality, consistency, and usability of spatial data and metadata
  • Supporting long-range GIS planning, budgeting, and roadmap activity
  • Advising internal teams on geospatial best practice
  • Ensuring the GIS environment aligns with broader ICT strategy

What you’ll bring

You’ll be an experienced GIS professional who is confident working across both technical delivery and business engagement. You’ll enjoy solving problems, building relationships, and helping others understand the value of spatial data.

You’ll bring:
  • Strong experience in geospatial application development, implementation, and support
  • Capability with ArcGIS Server
  • Experience publishing and maintaining geospatial services
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Clear communication and stakeholder engagement capability
  • The ability to contribute to geospatial strategy and roadmap execution
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sector

Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of ESRI Utility Network design and configuration
  • Familiarity with enterprise geodatabases, spatial views, stored procedures, and triggers

On Offer & How to Apply

You’ll be working in an environment where geospatial capability has real operational value. This is a meaningful opportunity to influence how GIS is used across an essential infrastructure setting, while joining a collaborative team that values practical thinking, quality delivery, and continuous improvement.
