About the role

The Opportunity
Cyber security has become one of the biggest challenges facing New Zealand organisations.

Most businesses know they need to improve their security posture, but few know where to start. Between growing regulatory requirements, increasingly sophisticated attacks and limited internal capability, organisations are looking for trusted partners who can help them navigate an increasingly complex landscape.

This is where this role comes in.

We're looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help grow one of New Zealand's most respected technology businesses by winning new customers across its cyber security portfolio.
This isn't an account management role.
It's about creating opportunities, opening doors and building trusted relationships with organisations that need long-term security partners rather than another technology vendor.
While the role has a national remit, the immediate priority is growing relationships within central government and the wider Wellington market.

The Company
For more than 65 years, this organisation has played an important role in New Zealand's critical infrastructure.
Today, it supports government, enterprise and critical infrastructure organisations through technology services that keep businesses connected, resilient and secure. Its cyber capability has grown into one of the most comprehensive offerings in the country, spanning managed security services, advisory, consulting, incident response and a 24/7 Security Operations Centre.

Customers trust the organisation because it combines genuine technical depth with long-term partnerships.
You won't be expected to know every technical answer.
Your role is to understand the customer's challenges, build credibility and bring the right expertise into the conversation.

The Role
This is a genuine new business role focused on winning net-new customers.

You'll identify opportunities across enterprise, government, critical infrastructure and regulated industries, building a sustainable pipeline while introducing customers to a broad portfolio of cyber security services.

Success won't come from leading with products.
Instead, you'll spend your time understanding how organisations operate, uncovering security challenges and helping shape solutions that improve resilience, reduce risk and deliver meaningful business outcomes.
You'll own opportunities from the first conversation through qualification, discovery, solution shaping and commercial negotiation. Along the way, you'll work closely with pre-sales consultants, architects, professional services, delivery teams and account managers to ensure every solution is technically credible and commercially aligned.

The sales cycles are consultative rather than transactional.

Customers often have multiple stakeholders, complex procurement processes and significant technical considerations. Building trust, navigating those environments and developing relationships over time will be central to your success.

Ultimately, this role exists to generate qualified pipeline, convert new customers and help grow an already well-established cyber business.

The Fit
You're someone who enjoys opening conversations that don't already exist.

You get genuine satisfaction from creating opportunities, building relationships and earning the trust of customers over time.

You've probably spent several years selling enterprise technology solutions. That might include cyber security, managed services, telecommunications, networking, cloud or infrastructure. More important than the specific technology is your ability to understand customer challenges, navigate complex organisations and consistently win new business.

You'll be comfortable engaging CIOs, CISOs and executive stakeholders, managing opportunities involving multiple decision-makers and balancing commercial outcomes with long-term customer relationships.
You'll also enjoy working alongside highly capable technical specialists and have experience selling into government and enterprise.

What matters most is that you're commercially driven, naturally curious and motivated by building relationships that turn into long-term customers.
If you're looking for an opportunity to represent a business with genuine technical credibility and a trusted reputation, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note, only candidates currently based in New Zealand with valid working rights will be considered.
