About the role

The Role:

We're looking for a Lead Engineer to join a high-performing squad within a leading financial services organisation. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll shape software engineering practices, mentor talented engineers, and drive the design and delivery of robust, scalable solutions.

You'll play a pivotal role in building reusable architectures, ensuring engineering excellence, and influencing technical decisions that have real impact. With a strong focus on integration and cloud-native technologies, you'll help the team navigate complex technical challenges while maintaining a customer-centric approach.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Leading technical design and architecture decisions, with a focus on complex integrations and system interoperability
  • Building and promoting reusable, scalable architectures that enable engineers to work effectively
  • Designing, coding, testing, and deploying high-quality applications, systems, and databases
  • Mentoring and coaching engineers within the squad to elevate their skills and technical awareness
  • Championing automation, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle
  • Ensuring code quality through peer reviews and advocacy for testing as an integral part of design
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to balance customer needs, technical constraints, and commercial implications
  • Identifying and resolving performance, security, and support issues proactively
  • Contributing to a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and software craftsmanship
What You'll Bring:
  • 10+ years' experience in software engineering (.Net), with deep expertise in integration architectures
  • Proven experience designing and delivering complex integrations across distributed systems
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native development
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automation (Windows, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with both RDBMS and NoSQL database design and optimisation
  • Hands-on expertise developing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures, streaming platforms, and big data technologies
  • Strong understanding of security principles and best practices
  • Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A passion for mentoring others and fostering a high-performance engineering culture

Why This Role:
This is an opportunity to work within a forward-thinking organisation that values innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. You'll be part of a team that's empowered to experiment, learn, and build solutions that make a tangible difference to customers.
With hybrid working 50% office-based in Auckland, you'll enjoy flexibility while staying connected to your team and the wider engineering community.

Next Steps:
