This is an Data Engineer role within a large organisation dedicated to delivering data services that support enterprise-level decision-making.
You will join a collaborative, delivery-focused team on a fixed-term project running through June 2027, developing modern data services using cloud-native platforms and advanced data engineering practices. This position suits individuals who enjoy combining hands-on engineering with elements of leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.
For this role you must be based in Christchurch, with flexible working arrangements and genuinely family-friendly hours.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop data services leveraging Databricks and modern data warehousing platforms.
- Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines for ingestion, processing, quality, and storage.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members, enhancing engineering practices.
- Work with Medallion-style architectures.
- Build and refine pipelines using Python, PySpark, SQL, and Delta Lake.
- Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders on projects.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipeline enhancements and improve deployment and reliability practices.
- 3+ years as a Data Engineer in data-intensive settings, with proficiency in Databricks, including Delta Lake, notebooks, and orchestration tools.
- Solid grasp of data engineering patterns like ingestion, transformation, and storage. Experience in designing ETL/ELT pipelines and analytical data models, skilled in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Familiar with cloud data warehouses (Azure SQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse) and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab).
- Collaborative team player in Agile environments, focused on attitude, curiosity, and continuous learning.
- Participate in data projects that contribute to meaningful, real-world outcomes.
