The Opportunity:

Demand is growing and this consultancy needs a senior data engineer who can take ownership of meaningful platform work, from early architecture through to delivery and handover. You’ll work directly with clients, help them adopt new ways of working with data, and influence the standards and patterns the team uses going forward.

This would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, can balance pragmatism with good engineering, and is comfortable being accountable for outcomes. You must be based in New Zealand and have the right to work here long-term.

The Role:

• Design and deliver modern data platforms (Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, etc.) 
• Lead delivery end-to-end: architecture to build, right through to handover 
• Build reliable pipelines using tools like Fivetran, Coalesce, dbt 
• Implement governance practices to keep platforms trustworthy and scalable 
• Create repeatable deployments with IaC (Terraform/Bicep) and CI/CD 
• Champion code reviews and consistent engineering standards 
• Contribute to internal frameworks and uplift team capability 
• Build data products that support AI/ML use cases (clean, model-ready data) 

 
Your Fit:

• 5+ years in data engineering / modern data platform delivery 
• Strong SQL and Python 
• Hands-on with Snowflake and/or Fabric and/or Databricks; plus dbt/Coalesce exposure 
• Good grasp of medallion architecture and dimensional modelling 
• Comfortable with governance/metadata (eg Purview, Coalesce Catalog) 
• Practical DevOps mindset: IaC + CI/CD for data platforms 
• Confident working directly with clients; ideally consulting experience
• You use AI tools sensibly to accelerate delivery (eg Claude, Cortex or similar)
