About the role

Why you would like it:

  • Lead strategic AI/ML projects end-to-end
  • Influence responsible AI standards and guardrails
  • Work closely with DS, DE, analysts, and software engineers
  • Build scalable models and real production integrations
  • Plenty of hands-on engineering, not just theory

The opportunity :
This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who wants to shape how AI is built, deployed, and governed across an organisation. You’ll lead delivery of AI/ML solutions that are robust, scalable, and designed to work in real products and workflows — not stuck in notebooks.

You’ll partner with data science and engineering peers to connect the full chain: data, modelling, MLOps, APIs, and integration. Alongside delivery, you’ll help lift the bar on Responsible AI by contributing to the standards, tooling, and guardrails that make AI safer and more transparent.

Company profile:

A large, modern technology environment with a strong focus on using data and AI to deliver better outcomes. You’ll join a collaborative team that values curiosity, clear thinking, and building things properly—balancing pace with quality and good engineering discipline.

The role:
  • Lead the design and delivery of production-grade AI/ML solutions
  • Build, evaluate, and iterate on models (supervised/unsupervised, gen AI)
  • Partner with engineers to integrate models into end-to-end systems
  • Implement strong model lifecycle management and MLOps practices
  • Develop and integrate REST APIs to operationalise ML capabilities
  • Champion Responsible AI: fairness, transparency, safety, and governance
  • Contribute to technical standards, tooling, and policies across the chapter
  • Communicate approach, trade-offs, and outcomes to varied stakeholders
Your fit:
  • Strong foundation in machine learning and statistical modelling
  • Proven MLOps/model lifecycle management experience in real environments
  • Cloud experience (Azure and/or AWS), including AI/ML services
  • Confident Python skills and solid engineering practices
  • Experience building/consuming REST APIs for production solutions
  • Comfortable in notebook environments like Jupyter or Databricks
  • Able to explain complex technical topics in plain language
  • Enjoys collaborating, mentoring, and setting practical standards

If this sounds like the kind of AI engineering leadership you want to be doing, apply now.

Please note: Applicants must hold valid working rights in New Zealand and be currently based here.
