You’ll be working with a NZ organisation investing in its data platform and looking to mature its engineering practices. The team is small enough that your decisions will matter, and pragmatic enough to value delivery over hype.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on Data Engineering role for someone genuinely confident in Databricks and motivated to help shape a practical, scalable lakehouse environment. You’ll be joining an established data function (Data & BI Analyst and Power BI Report Developer) and will be expected to contribute technically, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively across the business.
Dunedin is the preferred location. However, hybrid or remote working is supported provided you are based in New Zealand and able to travel to Dunedin when required (likely at least quarterly).

The Role

You will:

• Build and maintain data pipelines in Databricks using a lakehouse pattern
• Implement Medallion Architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold) design principles
• Develop with Delta Live Tables to enable reliable, scalable data processing
• Use Unity Catalog to support governed data access and manageability
• Partner with BI and data stakeholders to deliver trusted, high-quality datasets
• Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and continuous improvement

Your Fit

• 2+ years’ hands-on Databricks experience
• Proven experience applying Medallion Architecture in lakehouse environments
• Working knowledge of Unity Catalog
• Experience building with Delta Live Tables
• Databricks Data Engineer Associate certification (or willing to obtain within 3 months)
• Team-focused mindset with strong communication skills
