Senior QA Engineer
About the role
The company
With over a decade of global partnerships, they’ve built a reputation for producing interface software and integrated hardware solutions used by global commercial electronics manufacturers. Their intuitive design and analytics capability makes them a strong choice for organisations requiring touchscreen interface solutions globally.
They are a small, dedicated product development team building hardware, firmware, and software platforms that centralise and simplify how people interact with connected technology in their homes.
Why now
The business is managing increasing delivery demand across customer projects while continuing to develop and evolve its own hardware and software products.
As projects have grown in complexity, testing across embedded Android devices, firmware and software layers has become more demanding. Automation maturity is improving, but there is an opportunity to strengthen frameworks, reduce manual bottlenecks and lift consistency across projects.
The team is four QA engineers. They are looking to add a senior, hands-on QA professional who brings strong device experience, contributes meaningfully to QA decisions and helps evolve automation practices in a practical, collaborative way.
This is not a governance-heavy stop/go authority role. Quality is driven through collaboration within a small product team.
Your role
This is a hands-on Senior QA Engineer role operating close to the work. It requires active QA effort across projects and product development and focuses on delivering stable, well-tested outcomes.
You will work across embedded Android, firmware and software layers, validating both hardware and software environments. You will strengthen automation coverage across UI, API and integration layers, contribute to improvements in CI/CD integration, and help reduce regression risk.
You will contribute to QA decisions around tooling and new testing approaches, particularly where automation and AI-supported workflows can improve efficiency and insight.
You will support software release cycles, including planning, UAT coordination and readiness for customer deployment. While involved in release processes, accountability for overall release outcomes sits elsewhere.
Initially you will manage testing across two to three concurrent customer projects involving overlapping software and hardware delivery. As demand grows, this may scale. Strong prioritisation and comfort with context switching are required.
You will also support vendor and customer compliance requirements where needed and report on these elements when required.
The fit
You come from a senior, hands-on quality engineering background within a product-led technology business.
You bring at least five years’ experience testing device or embedded environments. Experience delivering combined hardware and software solutions is relevant. Experience within IoT, smart home, consumer electronics or connected-device environments would be advantageous.
You bring strong automation capability across UI, API and integration layers. Familiarity with frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium or similar is expected. You understand how automated testing integrates into CI/CD pipelines and are comfortable working alongside engineers in shared codebases.
You have either implemented or significantly contributed to automation improvements and have had meaningful input into QA decisions within your team. You are positive about the role AI will play in shaping the future of QA and are open to exploring practical applications.
You are collaborative, pragmatic and good with people. You are comfortable operating as a senior within a small team, influencing through discussion rather than hierarchy.
Please note, only candidates currently based in New Zealand with valid working rights will be considered.
