About the role

Job Summary
This is a Senior Data Engineer contract role supporting the build of a modern BI and analytics platform for a Christchurch-based organisation. You’ll join a small, delivery-focused team for a 6‑month onsite engagement, owning data pipelines end-to-end and helping establish trusted, scalable DataMarts and a Copilot-ready semantic layer. The work is hands-on, with close collaboration alongside analysts and BI stakeholders. You must be based in Christchurch and available for onsite work.

What you'll be doing
• Building and improving Snowflake-based data pipelines across ingestion, modelling, quality, and optimisation
• Developing ELT models in Coalesce (ideal) using modular patterns and environment‑based promotion
• Designing and delivering dimensional models and performance-tuned DataMarts
• Working across Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric/OneLake, Power BI, and related tools
• Supporting the build of semantic models for Copilot-ready Power BI datasets
• Driving quality, performance, security, and documentation uplift across the platform
• Collaborating with analysts and BI stakeholders to ensure data is usable, reliable, and well understood
• Using Git-based workflows and CI/CD-style approaches for data assets

What we're looking for
• Strong Snowflake experience, including SQL, performance tuning, warehouse management, and cost optimisation
• Coalesce ELT development experience (ideal, not mandatory)
• Experience with Azure Data Factory pipelines, Power BI semantic models/DAX fundamentals, and Microsoft Fabric/OneLake concepts is preferable but not required
• Solid dimensional modelling capability
• Comfortable working with Git and modern development practices
