Solution Architect – Finance, Risk & Data | 12‑month contract

Deliverables/Purpose:
Help a large financial services organisation modernise how finance and risk data is captured, processed, shared, and consumed. Provide high-level solution architecture across multiple squads, define reusable patterns, and uplift capability in data modelling, lineage, and data products. Guide modern practices including domain-driven design, event‑driven architecture, and a pragmatic data mesh approach. Drive consistency through governance and communities, align squads to roadmaps, support regulatory outcomes, and re‑engage stakeholders to bring them on the journey.
Contract details:
- Duration: 12 months
- Start: Mid‑January
- Location: Wellington preferred
- Context: Enterprise programme; multiple squads and architecture community
Skills and experience needed:
Must have:
- Senior-level solution architecture in large/enterprise environments
- Strong exposure to data platforms and data infrastructure, ideally AWS-based (some GCP beneficial).
- Data architecture, data modelling, and cloud‑first design expertise
- Domain‑driven design and event‑driven/real‑time patterns
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and clear communication
- Ability to codify patterns and drive alignment across squads
Highly regarded:
- Risk domain experience within the financial services industry – very highly regarded
- Experience with SAS or knowledge of SAS delivered as SaaS.
- Experience working in highly regulated financial environments
- Familiarity with enterprise reference architectures (e.g., BIAN, eTOM, or similar).
- Exposure to AWS SageMaker or modern ML/analytics tooling.
- Background in credit risk, risk-weighted assets, or financial risk modelling disciplines.
