Enable connects homes, businesses and public spaces, supporting everything from local tourism to free public Wi-Fi. They are a high-performing, community-focused organisation looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join their Christchurch-based team.
About the role
You will be the senior technical lead for network design, implementation and optimisation. Current priorities include delivering a large-scale firewall replacement project and expanding GPON and wireless capabilities.
Working across a multi-vendor environment (Cisco, Nokia, Huawei), you will lead projects, mentor colleagues, and ensure the network remains high-performing, secure and future-ready.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing, configuring and optimising Cisco switching, routing and firewall systems
- Leading and delivering a major firewall replacement project
- Growing GPON and wireless capabilities including public Wi-Fi
- Managing and integrating multi-vendor environments
- Introducing and using automation tools such as Netbox and Ansible
- Troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring network security and performance
- Building strong relationships with vendors, partners and internal stakeholders
- Mentoring and supporting other team members
- Strong background in network engineering with senior-level responsibilities
- Cisco networking and firewall expertise (CCNP or above ideal)
- Multi-vendor experience including Nokia, Huawei, GPON and wireless
- Clear communicator with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
- Proactive, calm under pressure and solutions-focused
