Cloud Software Lead
About the role
The Opportunity:
This is a rare opportunity to lead the development of the centralised cloud services layer for a global building control and security platform. You’ll own the architecture and delivery of core cloud functionality that enables scalable, flexible, and secure deployments across multiple global regions – spanning on-premise installs, single-tenant private cloud, and shared multi-tenant SaaS.
You’ll step into a space that’s under-resourced but high-impact – and lead the design and build of a platform that brings consistency, observability, and operational scale to a globally deployed software product.
Company Profile:
This forward-thinking company is an international leader in on-site and remote security, building management, and control systems. Its hardware products integrate seamlessly with sensors and machine vision, playing a critical role in a connected ecosystem that delivers intuitive, data-driven building experiences. With deep expertise in embedded systems and IoT and Cloud connectivity, the business delivers reliable, scalable solutions trusted by tens of thousands of companies worldwide. As it continues to grow, the company is focused on evolving its hardware portfolio - streamlining production, enabling offshore manufacturing, and optimising for performance and simplicity. The next phase of its growth centres on building smarter, leaner hardware to support an expanding SaaS software and Cloud platform capability.
The Role:
As Cloud Software Lead, you’ll be responsible for leading a small, focused team and delivering the infrastructure and services that underpin all cloud-based deployments. You’ll work closely with product and platform leads across on-premise, mobile, integration, and UI streams to ensure a joined-up, flexible experience for customers and internal teams.
You will drive:
Cloud Platform Ownership: Design and deliver the core cloud service that enables instance provisioning, deployment, licensing, and monitoring at scale – across both on-prem and cloud-hosted environments.
Deployment Automation: Build tools and services that allow for one-click provisioning of new customer instances. Streamline configuration and standardise global rollout.
Observability & Management: Implement platform-level monitoring and logging across distributed systems, so teams have the visibility and control to support global customers effectively.
Multi-Instance Architecture: Enable and maintain a multi-tenant, jurisdiction-aware cloud platform. Ensure the platform can meet local data sovereignty and GDPR requirements globally.
Hybrid Thinking: Support a product that must function both on-prem and in the cloud. Design systems that are flexible, secure, and agnostic to hosting models.
Leadership & Collaboration: Lead a small team of engineers (onshore and offshore), and work closely with tech leads across other squads. Bring others on the journey, own the roadmap, and make architectural calls that enable delivery and scale.
Your Fit: We’re looking for an experienced cloud platform engineer with strong architectural instincts and the ability to lead small teams through complexity. You’ve built scalable platforms before, ideally in product-led environments where hybrid deployments (on-prem + cloud) were core to the offering.
You’ll bring deep experience in containerised environments (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), and are confident working in both AWS and Azure – though you're not married to any particular provider. You design for portability, resilience, and security.
You’ve worked with multi-tenant or multi-instance SaaS models before and understand the operational trade-offs in scaling globally while supporting regional compliance needs. You understand what “platform” really means – services that power and connect the broader product – and enjoy building the glue that holds distributed systems together.
You may have come from IoT, infrastructure SaaS, or another complex backend domain. You’re pragmatic, collaborative, and calm under pressure – able to make decisions, communicate clearly, and get the best out of the people around you.
If you’re ready to lead cloud strategy and delivery in a company building products that protect people and places around the world, we’d love to hear from you.
Please note: Only applications from job seekers who hold a valid work visa, permanent residency, or NZ citizenship and are currently based in New Zealand will be considered.
