De Paul House is the 2014 Unsung Hero Charity!

We are delighted to announce De Paul House as the recipients of the $10,000 Unsung Heroes grant!

The donation will go a long way to help furnish and prepare the three new emergency residential units that De Paul House have recently completed building. The staff, manager and board of De Paul House were overwhelmed to receive the grant. “De Paul House is truly grateful for this Christmas blessing and will multiply ten to hundred fold in so many ways; helping De Paul House families and their children.”

Potentia Managing Director Josh Comrie said, "I was amazed by the volume and calibre of entries for the Unsung Hero Charity Vote and De Paul House is a hugely deserving winner. Hearing the difference they make within their community to help families who have fallen on tough times to get back on their feet was incredibly heart-warming. They truly are unsung heroes."
Eight charities were selected to take part in the Unsung Heroes Charity vote based on their heart felt video or written entries. We asked the public to vote for the charity who they believed was the most deserving of the $10,000 grant and De Paul House received the most votes! Watch the De Paul House video entry.

De Paul House has been around since 1986, providing temporary housing and support for families in need. Their approach is about giving ‘a hand up rather than a hand out’ - they help families to get back on their feet and assist them to sustain independent living. Their recent survey really shows the impact that they have made with 95% of the families they have helped since inception being in stable housing due to their efforts.

As well as helping out financially, there are many things that we all could do to help them such as passing on household items that you no longer need, attend a fundraising event, volunteer your time helping make up units, assisting with ground maintenance and many other tasks.
