When I was younger I played a lot of sport. Over the years I was fortunate enough to have some amazing coaches who made me a better player, equipped me with the knowledge I needed to keep improving, and instilled habits that have lasted a lifetime. So why don’t we make better use of coaches in our careers and personal lives?

Earlier this year I took a sabbatical and a few weeks back I wrote the first part of my blog to share my journey. I finished it by saying that the sabbatical worked, bringing rewards beyond my expectations. So what exactly happened? My hope in sharing this is that even if it’s not for everyone it will help someone, somewhere experience what I did. Apologies in advance, this one’s a little long and it gets pretty personal.

Within NZ’s IDT community we are witnessing an exponential proliferation of innovation initiatives. It’s a hot topic of conversation amongst our networks - one that gave us another great opportunity to bring people together. Last night we hosted a group of IDT professionals from various Auckland organisations, for an informal discussion about successes and lessons learned when it comes to innovation.

This year has seen exponential growth in the number of organisations using emerging technologies - think AI, machine learning, robotics, IoT, Blockchain and AR/VR - in the past few months we’ve had a number of folks reach out and ask if we would be willing to host an event where they could meet like-minded techies and discuss these new technologies.
