Chances are, if you are reading this, you are employed in a traditional 9-5, five days a week work pattern. However, as firms increasingly embrace flexible working initiatives, the number of people working 9-5 is likely to significantly decrease. A couple of months back I raised the topic of ‘The Age of the Remote Worker’. I have to say I was very interested to see the large response this piece elicited from our readership. Clearly it is a hot subject with many people sharing their opinions and experiences in relation to this so I thought I’d follow up and invite further discussion.

There has been talk and conjecture about remote working for years. Borderless work territories, global communities, and technology removing geographical barriers. But how many examples of this have we really seen? I’d certainly invite your input here. Based purely on our experience in the last 10 years, there really are very few remote workers in IT. Sure most companies allow team members to work from home on occasion or on a semi-regular basis (though not all have this flexibility!), but that’s actually a different subject.
